"I was quite surprised and elated to discover the sonic capabilities of the Audio Hungary X200 integrated tube amp. The very first thing that strikes me about the X200 sound is the sound stage. It is enormous, not in an unnatural way, but in its ability to envelope the listener.

The holographic effect is not what I usually associate with push-pull tube amps. More what I experienced with single ended triode amps I've heard.

The X200 has what I consider a “modern” tube amp sound with bass that has notable speed, grip, intonation and texture. There is nothing slow or overly soft to bass notes.  

The lower mids and upper bass are a highlight and give instruments believability and richness.

Most importantly the midrange is gorgeous along with the smooth and sparkling treble that hasn’t a hint of stridency.

The X200 voicing allows for very seductive and lengthy listening sessions without fatigue.

The amp can be used with either K120 or K150  or even KT170 output tubes. Changing the output tubes from K120 to K150 led to very noticeable refinements all around with even more transparency and clearer imaging. Re-biasing for the tube change took me literally 2 minutes. I listen primarily to digital files, but the phono section of this integrated amp makes it a great value."

"X200 was my cup of espresso. Colossal soundstage, glorious midrange, clean highs, and pounding bass." 

I loved the sound of this integrated amp. Is it summit-level performance? Not really, but it gets close. The MM phono input is above average, and the line-level inputs fed by a DAC sounded seriously good. Going from the VAC preamp directly into the power amp section (especially with KT-150s) was a stone-cold win. Combine build quality, usage options, and you have a lovely package for the price. 

I can easily see an X200 to be the perfect thing for a listener whose taste has become a bit more discriminating than the average listener and thinks they want to start building a bonafide audiophile system. Start with an Audio Hungary Qualiton X200, add a good streamer/DAC or CD player and a pair of stand-mounted monitors and call it done. The phono stage is plenty good enough to dust off the old SL-1200 with something like a Hana or an Ortofon MM cart to get the platter party going if that seems like a plan. Later on, if the system grows, the power amp might be the last thing a user considers upgrading, if at all. 

Any minute sonic compromises made by Qualiton for this price point are of a very mature and thought-out nature. If this is the kind of system you want to build, the Audio Hungary Qualiton X200 should be at the top of your list for a serious audition. 

This amp and its baby brother were reviewed by a very experienced audiophiles as coming very, very close to a world famous $20,000 amp. Yes, the sound is that good.
