We have literally been searching the world for an amazing DAC/headphone component that fits this price range. Some had loads of features and sounded like a toy. Others sounded just ok and lacked key features we know our customers demand. Then we heard about the return of a legend. Then we read Robert Harley's incredible review in TAS April 2016 where he states, "The return of Audio Alchemy is welcome news for those seeking the highest possible price-to-performance ration in electronics." After talking with legendary Peter Meadnick we were sold! -- TA
"The DDP-1 and DPA-1 bring terrific sound and stunning value to the category. As a linestage, the DDP-1 is amazingly clean and transparanent. Unlike mostelectronics of this price, the DDP-1 doesn't add a patina of electronic harness over instrumental timbers. Nor does it add opacity to the soundstage or compress dynamics. The DDP-1's DAC section is simply sensational; this level of sound quality would be outstanding in a $4000.00 stand-alone DAC, Clarity, openess, detail, and exceptional dynamics define the DAC's performance." Robert Harley. The Absolute Sound, April 2016
While the Audio Alchemy DDP-1 is a wonder with its stock supply, the PS-5 takes it to a completely other level for little money.
The PS-5 significantly improves the sound of the DDP-1 for very little investment. An easy and affordable improvement to get:
Lower noise floor
Immense spaciousness and musicality
It immediately and substantially elevates the performance of the DDP-1 by adding a much more advanced and capable power supply. It also complements the aesthetics of the DDP-1 by nesting beside the unit. This makes the PS-5 looks like an integral part of the system rather than an add-on accessory you want to hide.
Within the PS-5 are two separate, regulated power supplies:
One for analog circuits
One for digital and control circuits
As many of you know, its critical to isoloate anolag from digital so the digital doesn't pollute the analog. You don't want to suffer performace hits by either. Having completely separate supplies, the PS-5 provides each section with their unique power requirements to maximize performance.
These discrete supplies are routed into the DDP-1 (DAC/Preamp/Headphone Amp) through a special multi-pin connector on the rear of the unit for easy connectivity. The AC-to-DC conversion is performed inside the PS-5 to prevent interference with the sensitive analog audio circuits inside the DDP-1.
This balanced supply has separate analog and digital/control feeds, PLUS separate positive and negative rails for analog circuits, along with large banks of quality storage capacitors for better filtering and improved dynamics.
As you can see in our store we are very cautious about where products are made and their reliability before we even sit down to listen. So it was another wonder after everything to find out that the new Audio Alchemy products are made right here in the U.S.A.
